The Resource team’s mandate is to offer safe alternative care for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh children when necessary, while also promoting and respecting their well-being and cultural identity. The team provides, supports, and monitors placements for children under the care of Ayás Mén̓men, with a focus on preserving their connection to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture and family.
Objectives of the Resource team:
- Increase the number of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh caregivers available to provide continuous placements for children in care, offer relief to other caregivers, and provide respite for families.
- When family placement is not possible, arrange placements with caregivers who possess knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh traditions and are committed to upholding Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture.
- To provide a path back home through connection with family and attendance at Ayás Mén̓men cultural events and activities.
- To liaise with the Guardianship team to ensure children in care have a safe and loving home that supports their Sḵwx̱wú7mesh identity.
- To provide caregivers with training in the areas of child development, trauma and attachment and to promote their knowledge of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh culture and traditions.
