Passing of Late Chief Richard Williams
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Squamish Nation Leader, elected Councillor, Hereditary Chief Richard Williams – Xwélxwelacha-t Siy̓ám̓ (also known as Chief Dick Williams), born on February 25, 1948 and passed away on the morning of December 9, 2023.

Reminder of Complete Fireworks Ban On-Reserve
As a response to concerns from Members about the disruption and safety issues regarding fireworks in our community, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) passed a resolution in August 2022 for the control and eventual ban of fireworks on-reserve as of November 1, 2022. This ban was reaffirmed in August 2023.

The Squamish Nation has received a limited number of tickets from the BC Lions for the Orange Shirt Day game on September 29, 2023 at 7:30 pm. These tickets are specifically intended to honour Squamish Nation Members who identify as Indian Residential School or Day Scholar survivors.
Capilano River Fishing Closures | August & September
Update September 22, 2023 Thanks to your cooperation during the weekly 24 and 48-hour fishing closures, good numbers of salmon have been able to reach the Capilano Hatchery! Regular fishing can now resume.

August 2, 2023: North Vancouver, BC – Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), working closely with the Vancouver School Board and Renewal Home Development, and supported by the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Parks Board, have saved an historic building from demolition.
