Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Census
Census Data Website Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people have used data to steward territory, exercise governance, undertake planning, and assure the well-being of citizens since time immemorial. This function of governance has been disrupted over the past two hundred years, and today, much of the data generated about Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw is not held, collected, used, controlled, or reflective of our priorities and worldview.
Between July and October 2022, we asked Members to answer questions about health, housing, jobs, education, language and culture, and other aspects of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh life. Respondents could fill in the census as individuals, or heads of households could fill out a single survey on behalf of everyone living in their home. This approach to enumeration ensured everyone had an opportunity to be represented, including children under the age of 18 and individuals who could not respond on their own.
One in three (1233) Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members participated.
Every generation was well represented. chet kw’enmantúmi (we thank you) for the high levels of participation from those in the community and those farther away!
