We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director of Nexwsp’áyaḵen ta Smets’álḵen Kw’áxwa7 (IT), Mike Hughes, who has been working in and around IT for over 40 years.

Mike is a seasoned IT and Strategy professional with over 40 years of experience in the industry. He began his career in IT with custom programming, local area networking, and managing a software store, eventually spending 15 years at Ernst & Young. There, he held various roles in multiple cities, ultimately becoming a Senior Principal and leading the Edmonton IT Consulting Practice.

In 2000, Mike co-founded TkMC, a company he helped grow to 125 employees, where he served as COO and Partner in charge of IT Consulting for six years. After TkMC was sold to Sierra Systems in 2006, Mike continued to lead their IT Strategy Practice before joining KPMG as a Partner, where he headed their IT Advisory practice. In 2014, Mike founded his own IT consulting firm, focusing on the not-for-profit and skilled trades sectors, drawing on his extensive expertise to help organizations improve their technology strategies and operations.

On a personal note, Mike is married to Tracy, a Gulf Island native, and they have three grown daughters and two grandchildren. Raised in ranch country in Southwest Alberta, Mike now enjoys life on his farm southwest of Edmonton, with a second home in New Westminster. An avid flyer, Mike regularly commutes across the Rockies in his Cessna. When not flying, he enjoys fly fishing and is eager to explore the beauty of local rivers.

Mike is excited to step into this new role with the Nation and looks forward to supporting the growth and success in the years to come.
