Background:
A number of projects are currently underway to build more secure, safe, and affordable housing, and to improve our policies and programs. This letter is to share some exciting updates on housing for the community.
Hiy̓ám̓ Home Loan Program
The next round of the Hiy̓ám̓ Home Loan Program has recently been announced. This program allows those eligible for a bank loan, similar to a mortgage, to renovate or construct a home. This round will include 10 single family dwellings on lots to be allocated from Squamish Nation to individual members, 5 single family dwellings on Member-owned lots (CP), and 5 renovations to create a secondary suite within an existing home.

Publication of Housing List
The 2012/2013 Housing List will be published in April to support transparency. Please be aware that this is not the final list for allocations. Work still remains to ensure that the Housing List is up to date and that it aligns with the updated Allocations Policy (see below).

Allocations Policy
The Nation is updating the Housing Policy. As part of this, work is underway to create a standalone Allocations Policy. Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) has directed staff to make updates to the policy that enhance transparency, consistency, and clarity of the allocations process. These updates will primarily focus on the policy’s administration and will not include changes to the allocation categories. Opportunities for community engagement will be announced shortly.

Upcoming Subdivision Phase 4 Allocation
Servicing for Xwmélch’tstn Subdivision Phase 4 is complete. In the recently approved 2024/2025 budget, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) approved funding for 15 lot and home allocations. These allocations are planned for Fall 2024 and will take place under the new standalone Allocations Policy.
