To the Squamish People,
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) thanks Members for raising their concerns regarding the annual regular Distribution amount as part of the People’s Assembly Member Resolutions process. We recognize that this is a priority issue for our community, and we are taking steps to address it.
First, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw has approved a one-time special payment of $1000 to each Member. This payment is a result of the Nation’s returns on investments and will be issued on December 7 and 8, 2023 along with the regular Distribution.
Second, we have directed Nation staff to develop a policy to link the annual regular Distribution amount to the Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI) to address Members’ concerns around the increased cost of living.
These decisions are consistent with the staff recommendations provided to the People’s Assembly in April 2023.
Contact Ts’ixwts’ixwnítway (Member Services) at membership@squamish.net or 604-982-7610 if you need to update your direct deposit details (before November 10) or mailing address/pick-up location (before November 20).
Direct deposit will be issued on December 6. Pick-up will take place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm on December 7 and 8 at Totem Hall, Squamish Valley and Eslha7an Learning Centre, North Vancouver. This information is also available at squamish.net/distribution-notice.
Please note that this one-time special payment and regular Distribution will not be issued to Members who currently have outstanding debts to the Nation.
